Police search for assailant of PDS staff at Kokrobite

The Police are working with the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Ghana Limited and the local authorities at Kokrobite to identify and arrest a middle-aged man who reportedly inflicted cutlass wounds on Gershon Asiedu, a staff of PDS.

The 39-year old victim has since undergone a surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and is receiving additional treatment there.

A statement issued by the PDS, on Monday, said, the incident happened on Saturday, March 16, when Mr Asiedu, was working with his colleagues to restore power supply to some customers in the area.

Narrating the incident, the Bortianor District Manager, Michael Abbey, said: “While restoring supply, the technical team realised there were some trees interfering with the overhead cables.

“In the process of pruning the branches, they saw a middle-aged man walking with a young child. The team beckoned him to avoid the area where the pruning was being done because it was dangerous, but this directive was ignored, and rather incensed him.”

“The ‘man’ after exchanging words with the PDS staff, picked a cutlass being used to cut the trees and charged towards them. The team run for their lives, but Gershon fell while running and the ‘man’ struck him with the cutlass.

“Consequently, the rest of the team rushed to prevent him from inflicting further injury; and the man run away.”

The Public Relations Officer for the Accra West region of the PDS, Fred Baimbill-Johnson urged the public to collaborate with staff of the power company instead.

“To us, what we are calling for is more collaboration. We’re asking the public to realize that we will want them to have more power. Such instances make it difficult for our team to go into such communities to work”, he added.
