A Realtor, Dr. Kwadwo Ohene Sarfoh has urged the government to pass the Real Estate Act into law to regulate the housing industry.
According to him, the Act, backed by a Legislative Instrument, will enhance service delivery by real estate developers.
In an interview with Class News’ Jerry Akornor on the sidelines of the Ghana Real Estate Developers Association’s 30th-anniversary lecture in Accra, Mr Sarfoh, who is also a member of the Ghana Institute of Planners, said every decision to regulate the real estate industry is laudable.
General Manager of Republic Bank in-charge of Retail Banking, Paula Baldwin, for her part, urged real estate developers to form strong partnerships to bridge the country’s housing gap.
According to her, Ghana’s housing deficit remains a challenge facing the sector, and that affordable housing can only be achieved through team work with the government and flexible mortgage arrangements.
Founding member and first president of GREDA, Dr. Torgbor Mensah, charged the government to use the national pensions fund to achieve its agenda of building affordable houses.
Dr Mensah said a mixture of policy and political will is needed to make the affordable housing agenda a reality.
