Enforce speed limit laws to reduce accident fatalities – STC boss

The Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC), Nana Akomea believes the strict enforcement of laws on speed limits will help reduce accident fatalities in the country.

Speaking in an interview, he said if drivers and road users are made to understand the need to respect speed limits, less accident would occur and even if accidents occur it would have less casualty.

“The major problem on the highways is over speeding. It has been identified in every report that it is over speeding. The highways limit for speeding is 100km per hour. The reason why it is 100km per hour is that the frames of the vehicles have been designed to withstand an impact at around 100km per hour but if you go beyond 100km per hour and there is an accident, the frames would crumble and the force would be transferred to the passenger,” he said.

According to Akomea, the lack of respect for the speed limit is because law enforcement is not taken seriously in the country.

“When you go on the highway you see the sign that says 100km, this is not being enforced. One simple way of enforcing this is to have a requirement that ensures commercial vehicles on the highways to install speed alarm, which would enable a speed governor to disable the accelerator if you want to do more than a 100km per hours,” he suggested.

At least 70 people were killed in two separate road crashes that occurred in the country last week.

One of the accidents occurred on the Kintamapo-Techiman highway, leaving more than 60 people dead and the other occurred on the Accra-Cape Coast road where about 10 passengers perished.

The two incidents have brought to the fore again, concerns about the safety of Ghana’s roads especially intercity highways, some of which are notorious for fatal crashes.

Il doit : être en capacité de lire le Coran, croire avec certitude au Coran, être empreint de piété, connaître les pièges et les caractéristiques du diable et des djinns, connaître la méthode prophétique de la « roqya », disposer de connaissances de base en psychologie, avoir la conviction que le succès de sa thérapie dépend de Dieu. A l’exception de la première exigence, il semble difficile de vérifier les autres conditions dans le cadre d’un entretien téléphonique avec une personne que nous n’avons jamais rencontrée, même si elle se présente sous le titre de « cheikh » ou d’un imam. Par conséquent, ces conditions soulignent une première limite quant au recours à la « roqya » par téléphone. Par ailleurs, à l’instar de tout médecin, le soignant doit, avant de prodiguer des conseils ou une médication, procéder à une consultation. Ainsi, un environnement adéquat est indispensable pour la réalisation d’une « roqya ». Il est enfin inconcevable qu’un médecin puisse vous affirmer par téléphone connaître votre maladie et attester pouvoir vous guérir. Vous auriez plus que des doutes sur ce prétendu médecin. Donner au malade et à sa famille une leçon de dogme de façon à ce que leurs cœurs ne soient pas attachés à un autre qu’Allah. 6. Leur faire savoir que la façon de soigner est différente de celle des sorciers et des charlatans et que le Coran recèle guérison et miséricorde, comme l’a informé Allah le Puissant et le Majestueux. 7.
