Ayawaso Probe: Justice Short throws out crime officer over medical reports

Justice Emile Short, the Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon shooting incident has sent away the Divisional Crime Officer of the Airport Police Command, Superintendent Kingsley Abogye, for appearing before the Commission without the medical forms and statements of some victims of the shooting incident.

Superintendent Aboagye had told the Commission after swearing an oath that he had submitted the medical forms and statements to a police investigative committee set up by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

He stated that on January 31, 2019, he visited the University of Ghana (UG) Hospital in the morning and saw six victims on admission.

Later during the day, he said, he visited the same medical facility and met an additional 10 on admission, making in total 16 victims.

He told the Commission that 10 out of the 16 victims’ medical forms were ready and that they had been submitted to the Police Investigation Committee.

But Justice Short did not take kindly to that, asking him to go and collect the forms to enable him to testify.

“It is totally inappropriate and unacceptable to come here without the report,” Justice Short fumed.

He stated that it was extremely important for the Superintendent to take along the medical forms and statements “to be able to give meaningful testimony to the Commission.”

The Justice Short Commission is probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shooting incident which occurred on Thursday, January 31, 2019.
