The Ministry of Education has stated that the approved curriculum framework from Kindergarten to Primary six does not include Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) contrary to what was currently being discussed in the public domain.

At a press conference in Accra Tuesday, the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh emphasised that even though the curriculum framework which has been approved by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has also been approved by Cabinet and published, it “does not include CSE”

The idea of introducing a CSE from KG to Primary 6 in Ghana has dominated public discussions since last week and has aroused strong public sentiments with many opposing its introduction.

Addressing the press conference, Dr Prempeh said, NaCCA has not approved any material on CSE as it is not included in the approved and published KG-P6 curriculum framework.”

He said the 152,000 teachers who were recently trained for the new curriculum were not trained to teach CSE.

“Teacher resource packs developed for teachers to enable them to teach the new school curriculum (KG-P6) does not include CSE,” the Minister added.

The press conference was in response to the public sentiments being expressed on the plan to introduce CSE.

He explained further that there were faith-based organisations on both the Ghana Education Service (GES) and NaCCA governing councils to help ensure that the curriculum is aligned with “our values as a nation.”

He, therefore, appealed to the public and all faith-based organisations to exercise restraint and verify the facts of official government policy before making public pronouncements and that the government and the ministry will not compromise the societal values in the delivery of quality education.
